Back to Earth
It had been 2 weeks since the incident started.
Ghost Town…
Although things had lasted a little longer than expected, the effects took even longer to wear off.
Your phone buzzed. It was a text from your friend, Annika from college. The fourth one in a row. You hadn’t been answering.
“Helloooo… why are you being so weird lately? What am I, chopped liver?”
You let out a sigh.
“Sorry… I don’t want to talk right now. It’s not you, I’m just not myself lately” you respond.
She texted back immediately
“Umm ya, i can tell…”
“What’s wrong?” She continued.
“You know you can tell me anything, right?” She added.
“Ya I know, it’s just not really a big deal” You replied.
“Clearly it kind of is. You’ve been avoiding me like the plague” She said
“Ya, I know, sorry”
“Why don’t you come over tonight and we can talk about it?” She asked.
“I can’t tonight”
“Tomorrow then, I know you’re not doing anything”
You sighed again.
“Fine, i’ll come over” you reply.
“Yay :)” She said
“I’ll see you then!!!” she added.
You put you phone away and retreated to your room for the night.

You woke up the next morning, but decided you weren’t going to school. No. You would leave for school, as normal, but would double back and wander off into your new hiding space on the way there.
This was the place she took you; on that mysterious night.
God you missed her. But enough of that, you started throwing rocks in the pond to ease your mind.
Annika texted you:
“Why aren’t you at school???”
“Don’t worry about it, I’ll come over tonight”
“Okay good.” she responded
“You better be there!!!”
By noon you were starving. The house was now empty so you went back inside to make a sandwich. It wasn’t unusual for you to come home to make lunch these days anyway. You decided to spend the rest of the day in your room, looking through old notes and blueprints. You didn’t even have a picture of her. Your thoughts turned to your alarm clock…
“I can’t” you thought.
Then your thoughts turned.
“What the hell am I going to tell Annika?”
What were you going to tell her? That you fell in love with another girl in some sort of parallel universe? Then she’d really think you were crazy.
It was bad enough as it is trying to convince people you were doing okay. After all, you really weren’t.
You couldn’t really think of anything to say. Your stomach turned, but it was time to go.
You grabbed your bag and stuffed some of the papers inside.
The walk was about 12 minutes, and the tingling sensation throughout your body grew and grew, as the time went.
tick, tick, tick.
Your phone buzzed.
“Come on in when you get here. Door’s unlocked, I’m just hanging out in the living room :)” Said Annika
You double tapped your screen to like her message.
Your heart nearly pounded out of your chest as you went to open the door.
“What am I going to tell her?”
Turning the knob, you pushed and made your way inside. You turned to the living room to see Annika.
“Hey.” she said, nervously
